I think the mentorship was the best. I think that having someone available to give advice on a case and help you when you need help is very important. Not only does it allow us to build confidence, but it also allows us to see how several other doctors may tackle a particular case. I appreciate that even though I was assigned one mentor, I felt that I came away from the year having been mentored by several different doctors.
Everyone was approachable, and it was a very family-like place. I felt like I could be myself here and I didn’t have to change who I am.
You will see a lot and learn a lot. You will have more hands-on surgery experience than any place else. You will learn how to work with a diverse group of people. This place WILL prepare you for real-life GP/ER practice.
I feel like my goals are being met by this internship. Both the medical and surgical caseloads are very diverse, and I find we as interns are exposed to a lot. The doctors are AWESOME and will stop whatever they are doing to answer any questions you have.
